Monitoring Lévy-process crossovers

چکیده
Abstract The crossover among two or more types of diffusive processes represents a vibrant theme in nonequilibrium statistical physics. In this work we propose models to generate crossovers different Levy processes: the first model change gradually order derivative Laplacian term diffusion equation, whereas second one consider combination fractional-derivative terms characterized by coefficients that time. proposals are illustrated considering semi-analytical (i.e., analytical together with numerical) procedures follow time-dependent solutions. We find changes between regimes and it is shown that, far from regime, both yield qualitatively similar results, although these may occur forms for models. introduced herein expected be useful describing distinct frequently complex systems.

New control variates for Lévy process models
We present a general control variate method for Monte Carlo estimation of the expectations of the functionals of Lévy processes. It is based on fast numerical inversion of the cumulative distribution functions and exploits the strong correlation between the increments of the original process and Brownian motion. In the suggested control variate framework, a similar functional of Brownian motion...
متن کاملLévy flights from a continuous-time process.
Lévy flight dynamics can stem from simple random walks in a system whose operational time (number of steps n) typically grows superlinearly with physical time t. Thus this process is a kind of continuous-time random walk (CTRW), dual to the typical Scher-Montroll model, in which n grows sublinearly with t. Models in which Lévy flights emerge due to a temporal subordination allow one easily to d...

متن کاملOptimal foraging: Lévy pattern or process?
Many different species have been suggested to forage according to a Lévy walk in which the distribution of step lengths is heavy-tailed. Theoretical research has shown that a Lévy exponent of approximately 2 can provide a higher foraging efficiency than other exponents. In this paper, a composite search model is presented for non-destructive foraging behaviour based on Brownian (i.e. non-heavy-...
متن کاملOn the infimum attained by a reflected Lévy process
This paper considers a Lévy-driven queue (i.e., a Lévy process reflected at 0), and focuses on the distribution of M(t), that is, the minimal value attained in an interval of length t (where it is assumed that the queue is in stationarity at the beginning of the interval). The first contribution is an explicit characterization of this distribution, in terms of Laplace transforms, for spectrally...
